TIDE - KARIN VAN DAM

15.03.2025 -  13.04.2025

OPENING 15.03.2025  4pm

Our House is open from 1pm, the official opening at 4pm.

When we enter Karin van Dam's installations, at no point does the thought arise that it is a metamorphosis of ready-made objects.

Karin van Dam is always focused on searching and finding which is synonymous with discovering and collecting material. This ‘pallet of things’ contains the ingredients: material that generates meaning and exploring that stimulates thought. 'The fluffy ball, the drooping thread. Sometimes they are stored within my field of vision as possible building blocks.'

In the sketching phase, she arrives at the image by doing. This is also where her drawings and sculptures arise, which stand-alone but may grow into room-filling installations.

.

Without a predetermined plan, but through an intuitive process. ‘I do have an idea, but in the spontaneity, in the creation, in the play, in the adventure, that's where it happens’.

Her work is in constant flux. She often returns to former artworks, to combine them, rework them, add to and expand them. Every piece is a continuation of previous works as well as a bridge to what comes next. This search and finding process never ends.

The spaces in which she builds her installations influence and determine the direction in which the work develops. She is a connector and the search is like the never ending Tide.
