The Albert van Abbehuis is Eindhoven's home for contemporary culture, housed in a monumental mansion right in the center of Eindhoven, opposite the Van Abbemuseum. 

 

The House is a connecting element between contemporary art and the lifestyles of individual visitors. With its early 20th-century decorations and intimate spaces, this former residence offers a welcome and challenging alternative to the usual ‘white cube’. 

 

With a broad programme of exhibitions, Intermezzos and diverse events and exhibition-related activities, the Albert van Abbe House is a welcoming meeting place for everyone.

 

The Albert van Abbehuis offers a stage to local and (inter)national talent in six to eight exhibitions a year.  The Intermezzos, four to six a year, combine short-term experiments with public activities, in which direct and unpolished encounter and collaboration are the driving forces.

Coordinator

The board of the AVA foundation is looking for a versatile coordinator responsible for both the artistic and operational aspects of the organisation. An enthusiastic and committed person who leads a diverse team in an inspiring way. Someone who ensures financial health, seeks cooperation with external partners and works with the board and team to shape a vision that is both progressive and future-proof.

 

As coordinator, you will also play a central role in organising exhibitions and events in the field of visual art, design and architecture, as well as educational programmes and meetings with artists. You will coordinate communication and PR with our own team and freelancers. The business management is initially still in the hands of the foundation's treasurer, but in time you will be expected to take over this role. The position will start with 12 to 16 hours per week (by mutual agreement), which you can arrange as you see fit. You will report to the board of the foundation.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the artistic team to develop and implement an artistic programme, including selecting and managing exhibitions and cultural events.

  • Lead the team to ensure smooth implementation of programmes.

  • Work with communications and PR freelancer(s) to ensure visibility and promotion of events.

  • Together with the treasurer, prepare and manage the budget, including financial planning and fundraising and accounting for it afterwards.

  • Maintain contacts with artists, art institutions and other cultural partners to promote synergy.

We require

  • Proven experience in the cultural sector, preferably in a managerial or coordinating role.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to network and build relationships.

  • Excellent organisational and financial skills.

  • Ability to increase the financial leeway of the foundation through fundraising and/or sponsorship and ensure continuity

  • Flexibility and creativity to develop and implement a varied cultural programme in line with the vision of the wider Brainport region.

  • A relevant network within the Brainport region.

  • You preferably live in Eindhoven or surroundings.

  • Affinity with and knowledge of visual arts, design and architecture.
