(NL) In deze tijd is het moeilijk kiezen hoe je je het best gedraagt ​​en met wie je contact maakt. Er zijn zoveel perspectieven in de wereld om ons heen. Hoe blijven we in contact met onze oprechte persoonlijke gedachten tussen al die snelle vloeibare communicatieniveaus? Hoe blijven we onbevreesd onszelf uitspreken? Kunnen we echt ‘de ander’ horen – alle wezens die anders zijn dan wijzelf? Griet Menschaert gebruikt haar potloden om te reflecteren, confronteren, troosten en verwerken. Haar werk is als een dagboek waarin haar gedachten worden gevisualiseerd.
Ze opereert zowel solo als in samenwerking. In al haar werk tast ze subtiel maar intens af in welke mate bepaalde facetten van de actuele context de individuele mens beïnvloeden en hoe (on)mogelijk verantwoordelijkheid binnen die constant veranderende dynamiek is.

In ‘Reality Check’ zie je vooral tekeningen en tekstwerken in het Engels en Nederlands. Er is ook een ruimte gewijd aan Menschaerts vriendschap met Varia, een Oekraïense naaister die nog steeds in de buurt van Charkov woont. Griet werkt sinds 2012 samen met Varia en laat door middel van tekeningen, teksten en kunst zien hoe hun vriendschap voortdurend transformeert door de Russische invasie. Ook is De Grot te horen, de literaire dansact van de kunstenaar met muzikant en leraar Otto Donkers.

Griet Menschaert is een in België geboren, in Eindhoven wonende kunstenaar, schrijver, performer, curator en educator. Ze gebruikt tekeningen, teksten, performances en publicaties om het zelf te verbinden met ‘de ander’, waarbij ze zich altijd intens bezighoudt met het hier en nu. Ze begon haar carrière als eindredacteur bij een Brusselse krant, welke ervaring ze steeds heeft meegenomen in de artistieke praktijk die ze daarna ontwikkelde.
De tekeningen en andere werken van Griet Menschaert zijn internationaal tentoongesteld. Het Van Abbemuseum heeft verschillende werken in de collectie. Menschaert heeft veel projecten en tentoonstellingen geïnitieerd en gecureerd. Ze was oprichter en directeur van het in Eindhoven gevestigde platform KONT magazine. Ze is Coach Reflections aan Design Academy Eindhoven. Ze studeerde Germaanse Filologie en verkreeg een Master Media- en Informatiekunde aan de KULeuven (BE) en een bachelor Beeldende kunst aan AKV St Joost, ‘s-Hertogenbosch (NL).

(ENG) In this time, it is hard to choose how to behave best and with whom to connect. There are so many perspectives out there in the open. How do we stay in touch with our true individual thoughts in the middle of so many fast and fluid levels of communication? How do we stay unafraid to speak up? Can we really hear ‘the other’ – all beings different from ourselves? Griet Menschaert uses her pencils to reflect, confront, comfort and process. Her work is like a diary in which her thoughts are visualized.

She operates both solo and in collaboration. In all her work she subtly but intensely explores to what extent certain facets of the current context influence the individual and how (im)possible responsibility is within this constantly changing dynamic.
‘Reality Check’ mainly showcases drawings and text pieces in English and Dutch. There is also a space dedicated to Menschaert’s friendship with Varia, a Ukrainian seamstress, still living close to Kharkiv. Griet has been collaborating with Varia since 2012 and will show through drawings, writings and art how their friendship constantly transforms due to the Russian invasion. You also hear De Grot, the artist’s literary dance act with musician and teacher Otto Donkers.
Griet Menschaert is a Belgian born, Eindhoven based artist, performer, curator, educator and writer. She uses drawings, texts, performances and publications to connect the self to ‘the other’, actively engaging with the present here and now. She started her career as fulltime editor for a Brussels newspaper, which influenced her artistic practice ever since.

Griet Menschaert’s works have been exhibited internationally. The Van Abbemuseum has several works in its collection. She has initiated and curated many projects and exhibitions. She has been the founder and chief of the Eindhoven based platform KONT magazine. She is Coach Reflections at Design Academy Eindhoven. She studied Germanic Philology and obtained a Master’s degree in Media and Information Science at KU Leuven (BE) and a Bachelor Visual Arts at AKV St Joost, ‘s-Hertogenbosch (NL).​
